Digitizing Two Hundred Cassette Tapes

Like most people who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I had a pretty large collection of cassette tapes. But probably unlike a lot of people, I’ve managed to hang onto them, or at least a lot of them, over the years. This big box of tapes has traveled with me through probably a dozen moves over the years, and it’s always been in the back of my head, “I should probably digitize them.” The thing was, I had a bunch of cassette albums, sure, but most of them I eventually replaced with CDs and later ripped to MP3s. But I had a ton more of mix tapes and TV recordings.

I grew up in the 80s, against the backdrop of Michael Jackson’s music. I remember my parents listening to Thriller, Billie Jean, and Beat It. In many ways, Michael Jackson defined music in the 80s.

Matthew Ebel

This weekend in Atlanta, I had the chance to hear an extrodinarily talented musician. I want to give him major props for one of the best concerts I have seen in a long time. Matthew Ebel (you can buy/listen to his stuff on iTunes too) has a sound that is somewhere between Ben Folds and Billy Joel. If you like Piano Rock, or are just looking for something good to listen to, I highly suggest you check him out. I already bought all three of his albums.
